Jim Rogers on CNBC

In 1970, Rogers joined Arnhold & S. Bleichroeder, where he met George Soros. That same year, Rogers and Soros founded the Quantum Fund. During the following 10 years the fund gained 3,365% while the S&P advanced about 47% (963.99/800.36).[1] It was one of the first truly international funds.

In 1980, Rogers decided to “retire”, and traveled on motorcycle through China. Since then, he has been a guest professor of finance at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

Doom & Gloom from Sequoia

The guys who know everything about everything called in all their portfolio CEOs yesterday and told them this.  Amazing stuff given that tech is the only industry that isn’t leveraged to the hilt. Punch line is that even these guys are scared pissless and are hunkering down for a long, long winter. If you haven’t gone through your personal finances and made adjustments, you really should IMO.

The effects of these actions, this fundamental ideological shift from capitalism towards socialism, represents a seismic shift in the history of this country. The events of the past week — and what it says about our collective ability to take our lumps, drink our medicine and recognize that the path to the ultimate goal is one littered with hairpin turns and drop away cliffs — will not be lost on future generations.

The “Mojave Experiment”

Too funny, Microsoft. If you can’t sell it to them based on its merits, trick them.
